First-Gen students don’t go to college alone; they go with their families. Now that colleges are beginning to realize the wisdom of this often repeated phrase, it’s time for them to help ready everyone for success. What can they do to ensure that students, as well as their parents all experiencing college for the first time have a positive transition?

The Chronicle will bring together a panel of campus administrators to share their own experiences working with the families of first-gen students. What have they learned about the unique needs of these students and their families? What specific challenges have they encountered?

What recommendations do they have for other administrators as they guide first-gen families along the path to a degree?
