Nonprofit giving took a heavy hit during the last quarter of 2022, with both total revenue and total number of donors falling short compared to 2021. In spite of these declines, there’s optimism in fundraising - as long as organizations are willing to find better and more consistent ways to engage with donors.

“You can talk to your donors more often,” said Woodrow Rosenbaum, chief data officer for GivingTuesday Data Commons, an organization which worked recently with the Fundraising Effectiveness Project to analyze 2022 nonprofit sector trends. “You can talk to them about more things…We can do it all year, and we have to.”

When equipped with the right data, nonprofits can better understand their donors and come up with new, creative strategies for improving engagement and increasing dollars raised.
